I drew this as an MSN avatar for my friend Melissa, but it ended up being more of an exercise to practise my photoshop skills. Mainly focusing on drawing line art.

As you can see I made a bit of a mess around the lips and other areas. I found drawing long lines using vectors is a lot easier.

Does anyone have any pointers?

Ooh... I hope she doesn't mind me posting it... I guess it's ok... it looks nothing like her

It works well as a caricature. However, if you are looking to get some smoother inking lines, you can't go wrong with the vectors. It looks like you used them for the hair and the outlines of the face which look much smoother than the lines for the shirt. If you were using vectors on the shirt, try removing points and adjusting the pull points for a smoother, longer curver, instead of overlapping paths.

The colouring is consistent overall, and the hues you picked were nice and vibrant. It looks like it would shrink to avatar size easily and still retain the style and attitude.

I forgot to mention I used Vectors for the hair... and something else...

PixelFish, what do you mean by pull points? Do you mean the dots on the lines?
